Mona Bode’s Mic Fiends Variety Show 2019 @ Marcus Garvey Park (Harlem, NYC)

You can always expect the unexpected at a variety show, and after what went down on the IFC (Independent Film Channel) show “Sherman’s Showcase,” there’s at least one person in attendance, who wants to see if any artist will dare to push the envelope.

In case you missed it, an artist named RWKSY did a skit on Sherman’s variety show that pushed the envelope off the edge of God’s green earth; accompanied by a trap choir, she performed the bumpin’ & blasphemous “Drop It Low (For Jesus),” which featured lines like:
Keep the Lord in mind / When you Dutty Wine / Drop it, drop it for Jesus

Sitting in the Marcus Garvey Park Amphitheater, there wasn’t anything sacrilegious going on–no one dropping it low. Biggie’s “One More Chance” blasted through the speakers; a lady named Billie, sporting a gardenia in her hair, says aloud, “They can come hear me now sing for free–after this it’s the Cotton Club, $25.”

The show started with the host, Ty Spoken Soul, calling Baba the drummer to the stage to invoke the Ancestors.
